Bryce Canyon is our favourite national park so far; it’s such an unusual landscape that it feels like you’re on another planet.
We didn’t camp at Bryce Canyon; due to the elevation the overnight temperatures were below freezing, so we camped 30min away in Kodachrome State Park. Despite being a 30min drive away we managed to get to Bryce for the sunrise (a massive achievement for Mike!). We were greeted by what looked like thousands of sandstone soldiers waiting to come to life, all glowing in the morning light. Truly spectacular.
We spent the day doing a big hike down into the canyon and around the pinnacles. They are formed over time by the melting and refreezing snow and ice, so unfortunately the passage known as Wall Street was closed due to the danger of rockfall. We did manage a peek up the 2m wide canyon though, which was true to its name with towering forms on either side.
Such a dad thing to say, dad!! But I totally agree!! 🙂
